Tantalizing Tuesday's Tete-Tete's #No.4- Vengeance
Prompts:fragrant, sustain, and petty
I looked around the room where the fragrant funeral flowers mixed with the smell of death. Only my sister and I remained of all of our family of fifteen.
“ How could this have happened Aline?" my sister asked.
“I'm not sure," I answered stunned by the devastation.
“I feel so petty I argued with Kern this morning telling him he couldn't come with us to Loch Ness."
“Neither of us knew what this day would bring hordes of foreign soldiers who slay in their wake.
“What are we going to do Aline?
“We take what we can and flee then we find the ones who did this, Edana
and make them pay.”
“But even if we find them, we are only
two women how can we punish them?”
“We find out who! We wait in hiding and
we train with swords and armour. Then we vanquish them,” I answered.
The horde that killed our family was
easily found for they'd taken up residence in our neighbour's home. We however were far from ready to take them on; so we hid in the woods beginning our training.
The swords we used at first were too heavy, so I had the blacksmith in the town two towns over fashion
lighter swords for us with what money we had left. it wasn't enough but the blacksmith took what we had, didn’t ask questions and only begged then when we went against the men that he too could come with us. He needed vengeance for his wife who was murdered as she visited her sister that fateful day. He made us armour and helped us train at night. By day we work as servants to the evil doers to sustain ourselves but I still I plan their demise.
Three months of training came down to
today. The men that killed my family lay dead at our feet. Their death should
feel like victory to me, instead it feels like ashes in my mouth. It did not bring
back my family and Edana has changed to someone I don’t know. She talks little and is sullen. The blacksmith thinks I owe him my life as his wife for his silence and help. I have traded one prison for another. What price vengeance?
