Happy New Year 2012

Fare thee well two thousand eleven
You had high points which outweighed the lows
You gave me joy and a touch of heaven
As I saw my dream fulfilled as the work flowed
To the pages of a book and onto readers so dear
To find my work touching others was good to hear
So now two thousand twelve will come creeping, bringing more cheer
As I hope to release four books for readers to enlist fear
And plot points to enjoy, books with murders, with vampires
And family units will spill onto Kobos, Sonys, and Kindles Fires
This New Year two thousand twelve will be the best yet
I hope for readers and myself so no need to fret
That the year two thousand eleven is gone
For time it always marches on.
But we grow, move on and fulfill
Our wishes and dreams that time cannot still
So we embrace the scary and the new
And make it, the new year a rosy hue.

Fun Facts about Love's Labours Won

Check out the last review here of Love's Labours Won from
A Lot Of Pages  <<click here

In my book Love’s Labours Won they speak of a Magick council not Magic council. This was a deliberate spelling because this spelling most accurately portrays the instrument the people use to do (Magik) in the book.

From the Urban dictionary  Magik: 1.  An effort to make a change in one's life by using one's own personal energy and the energy of surrounding elements.
The "K" was brought back into use by Aleister Crowley in the 1900's to differentiate it from magic, the slight of hand tricks that became popular in the time. magick. It was changed from the originally spelt 'magick' on the end by Crowley to differentiate it from stage 'magic', the art of magick is difficult to define, yet can best be described as the ability to manipulate what is in the material world by will. Some people use tools and others visualisation, some practice solitary and others in covens. Magick is universal.

Aunt Iva Demetrious' Aunt is modeled after my mother and my grandmother who name was also Iva and who came from Kentucky.

The title Love's Labours Won was borrowed from a discarded play by William Shakespeare. The only similarity is that there some names you might find in a play by Shakespeare like Demetrious and Darius.I'm just a huge fan of Shakespeare.

Interview with Author Kenneth Hoss @kennhoss

Interview With Author Kenneth Hoss
for_book_jacket.jpg

Author of Storm Rising, the first book in the Kelli Storm series
Storm_Rising_Kenneth_Hoss.jpg

Kenn has agreed to answer a few questions for his readers today.Thank you Kenn.

1.) What or who inspired you to write?  And how long have you been writing?

It was a little of both. I loved reading Sci-fi and Fantasy novels as a kid, and I guess that spurred me to write my own stories. The “who” would be some of my favorite authors, both then and now. I started writing in High School, which seems like a life time ago, though at the time it was mostly for “me”. I started again while in the Navy and even completed a Fantasy novel, though I was naive and sent it to a self-publishing house and never saw it again. My latest foray into the writing world began just a little over 3 years ago.

2.) Some writers find they plot their novels then write them they are known as plotters others just  write as the ideas come and are known as pantsers. Which are you or are you a bit if both?

With the Kelli Storm series, I had all three books plotted out in my head before I started writing. With Storm Rising, I did a rough outline and then my research. I did a bio for Kelli, her mother and her partner. Of course as the story progressed, Kelli took more control and of course I had to follow. With book two I did the bios and a skeletal outline, but it’s mostly by the seat of my pants.

3.) As a writer do you find yourself trying to put yourself into your character’s mind?

Always. Though lately it seems more like Kelli is the one putting herself into my mind.

4.) Who are your favourite authors?

Tough question simply because there are so many. If I have to narrow it down, then I have to go with David Baldacci, John Grisham, and Tom Clancy. Among my favorite Indies, I have to say that Everett Powers, Carolyn Arnold and Steve Umstead.

5.) What can you tell us about your books ?

This first book in the series introduces Kelli and the people in her immediate life. It delves into both her professional and personal life, and how she deals with the conflicts that arise in both.

Here is the blurb for Storm Rising, the first book in the Kelli Storm series.

When a murder investigation turns Detective Kelli Storm’s attention to a drug kingpin, the last thing she expected was to find a link to her father’s killer from twenty years earlier. Detectives Kelli Storm and Bill Hayes are investigating multiple homicides in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood. After a young woman is murdered, Kelli tracks the killer to a Gentleman’s Club in Manhattan. There she locates an unwilling witness. When the woman is assaulted and left dying, the investigation takes a new twist. The DEA steps in and takes over, forcing Kelli off the case. Kelli decides to take a different approach. Working behind the scenes, she pulls out one of her father’s old case files and finds a connection between the killer and his murder.

6.) What are you writing now? Is there a sequel to Storm Rising?
I am currently working on the second book in the Kelli Storm series, Storm Warning. I have set a deadline for myself to have the it available by Spring of 2012. The third book in the series, Eye of the Storm is slated for Fall/Winter 2012.

Interview with Author Jodi Langston

1.) What or who inspired you to write?  And how long have you been writing?
I think TV and the fact I had a story to tell. When I first learned to write I would write and illustrate a story with my crayons and bring it to my mother to read. I guess my first genre was Westerns.  I went through a poetry phase and still write it today. There’s a poetry corner on my blog.
Nick, from Nature of the Beast was inspired by a walk in my favorite woods. I was thinking about who would be the perfect man. He kicks ass and writes poetry and likes hockey.
2.) Some writers find they plot their novels then write them they are known as plotters others just  write as the ideas come and are known as pantsers. Which are you or are you a bit if both?
Both, but mostly panster. I usually get the whole story at once so it is just a matter of filling in the details. I frantically write down what I need to in the beginning, then go from there. I have outlined a Viking romance which I normally don’t do.
3.) As a writer do you find yourself trying to put yourself into your character’s mind?
I am so connected to them I don't always have to. Sometimes they will just pop into my head and take over. If I write the wrong thing they let me know.lol I like to let the characters take me where they want to go.
4.) Who are your favourite authors?
Everyone who knows me, knows it's Robert Crais. I love his character Joe Pike, and I write fan fiction for the character. Joe and I are kindred spirits. It figures my perfect men would be an imaginary characters.lol I’ve enjoyed Iris Johanssen, Linda Howard Nora Roberts, I just read a Barry Eisler novel, his John Rain, character is unusual.  I haven't done much reading this year. I have enjoyed reading all of your stories!
5.) What can you tell us about your books Always and Nature of the Beast
Always, is about a woman who was nearly killed by her abusive husband. She had developed a close relationship with the cop, Rick, who always came to her rescue. She deals with PTSD and brain trauma.  I think of it as a story of survival. Alex has to decide if she wants to live her life in fear or try to live a normal life again. There is a very big part of myself in Alex because I was a victim of domestic abuse. It was my attempt to show the world what goes on and how hard it can be to learn to trust again. Some say Alex is weak, but she ends up strong in the end. Not everyone will ‘get’ the story.
Blurb of Always
Writer, Alexandra Martinson, awoke from a coma, ten years ago not remembering Detective Rick Ryan and the love they shared. As Rick readies himself to tell her how he feels, fate throws another obstacle in his path, actor Thane Hunter. When Alex’s ex-husband, goes in search of revenge, Rick and Thane must work together to save her. Only one man will do whatever it takes to make sure she survives.
Nature of the Beast is a story that ends up in Minnesota, my home state. I try to capture some of our scenic beauty. I think Nick is a good fit for Minnesota. Nick is extreme, a warrior poet. I like a man of action who can express how he feels!
Blurb of  Nature of the Beast
Homicide cop, Nick Dempsey’s life is filled with turmoil and tough decisions after a near-fatal injury. He realizes his career and relationship with actress, Kathy Tyler, are both at a standstill and reluctantly leaves L. A. and Kathy behind. Nick takes the job of sheriff in a northern Minnesota town. Can Kathy and Nick rekindle their love before a serial killer takes her from him forever?
6.) When can we look forward to the sequel of Nature to the Beast?
My health has been a huge issue for me this year. It’s hard to focus on my characters when it takes all my energy to get through the day!
I'm almost done with Ties that Bind, but then I've been saying that all year. I had to do a major plot change and it just sucked the energy out of me. I never got my momentum back. What I had planned came true and I didn't think I could move forward without people thinking I was copying current events. Luckily, it all didn't come true! I've taken Nick down a darker path and that could be part of the problem, too.
I’ve also finished the movie scripts based on the novels. I also wrote a script for someone, we hope to get it to Sundance, etc. Casting and funding are a big projects, but that’s not my responsibility.
Sheilagh says : That is very exciting I’d love to see your work on the big screen.
7.) Thank you for granting this interview Jodi. Would you like to give away a copy of your book on this blog?
I would be delighted to give one lucky reader a book.

Interview with Author Carolyn Arnold

Available at Amazon http://amzn.to/vfYWtd

Carolyn Arnold generously allowed me to interview her about her writing and her new book Eleven; here are the answers to those questions.

1.)        What or who inspired you to write?  And how long have you been writing?
I used to write as a teenager and rediscovered my passion over four years ago now.  Anything around me can serve as inspiration.
2.)        Some writers find they plot their novels then write them they are known as plotters others just  write as the ideas come and are known as pantsers. Which are you or are you a bit if both?
Panster for sure.  Although I have an idea what I want to accomplish in a scene or chapter, I follow the characters.  Sometimes even the ending is a bit different than I originally thought it would be.

3.)        As a writer do you find yourself trying to put yourself into your character’s mind.

You have to.  In order to create believable characters, the author must live in their minds, experience their emotions, and in essence be them.

4.)        Who are your favourite authors?

David Baldacci and Sandra Brown.

5.)        Eleven is an ambitious book and must have taken quite a bit of research. Where do you do your research?
For Eleven my research was conducted online through the FBI website to start with.  I also found Google Earth to be invaluable to taking me to the places my characters were as I've never travelled to these places.
6.)What can you tell us about Eleven?
Brandon Fisher always wanted to be FBI, and at the age of twenty-eight has made Special Agent.  Transferred from his hometown of Sarasota, Florida to Quantico, Virginia he is teamed up under the lead of Veteran Special Agent Jack Harper of the Behavioural Analysis Unit.  With a temper normally close to the surface, Brandon has to learn to keep it under control because Jack tests his limits at every possible moment.  And with the first case taking them to Salt Lick, Kentucky and the discovery of underground burial chambers, Brandon must confront one of his greatest fears – claustrophobia.
Here’s the book blurb:
Eleven Rooms. Ten Bodies. One Empty Grave.
Brandon Fisher never expected this when he signed up as a Special Agent for the FBI.  Working in the shadow of Supervisory Special Agent Jack Harper of the Behavioral Analysis Unit his career seemed set.  But when the team is called to a small rural town where the remains of ten victims are found in an underground bunker, buried in an unusual way, Brandon knows he'll never return to his normal life.
With one empty grave, and the case touching close to home, he fears he's become the target of a psychotic serial killer who wants to make him number eleven.  Only thing is, everything Brandon thinks he knows is far from the truth.

My name is Mabel Ward and I want to tell you the story of the winter of 1900 that was so long ago. I suppose that is shallow but on the day that picture was taken I had hoped to be immortalized for all time To my misery I never told this story when I was alive and now it leaves a hollow in my family history.
It was cold that winter just before Christmas and yet the sleigh moved like butter across the road. Daddy thought we should stay home from the party because it was so bitterly cold but Alfred, my brother had offered to take us. We were excited to spend the afternoon at a Christmas party given by our cousins ‘The Wards’; even if we were escorted by our brother, Alfred who frowned at the boys who wanted to talk with us. We were going to a party without our parents. What could be more glorious? Still that afternoon we had a few young men who were not our cousins who braved Alfred’s cold looks to talk. Eleanor had more company of course, the boys always did like her better. The afternoon flew by as we ate the Christmas cookies and punch. I enjoyed starring at the tapers that were lit on the tree in the parlour as well as counting all the hand-blown glass ornaments, Aunt Frieda had shipped over from the continent. Aunt Frieda handed us some baked goods and a mince pie to take to mother and it was time to go before its dark. We gathered our coats from the front hall, ready for the bitter ride across town in the sleigh. Oh how the horse flew in the wind but then to our surprise Alfred stopped the sleigh and waved to a young man with a camera.
“Say, Paul would you take a picture of us?”
The young man whom Alfred called Paul agreed straightening his equipment to take our picture. We stood stiffly in the cold as he adjusted his camera until he was able to take the picture. I felt like a polar bear all dressed in my warm coat holding a dangling muff but Eleanor stood tall looking regal and beautiful like she always did as he took the picture. I was cold shivering in the bitter wind we had to be quick the horse was already cold standing so still. Paul took the picture and promised to bring by the developed picture in a few days. This all seemed so amazing, I’d see pictures of course, who hadn’t but they were usually at Aunt Frieda’s home. Now we too would be preserved in film for all time. What would our future relatives say about us with this picture? I wondered.
“Mabel it’s getting late let’s go now.” Eleanor called and I mounted the sleigh and placed the blanket across my knees as we fairly flew with the horse’s eagerness to get home in his warm stall.
Now I am gone but my relative stares and wonders. How I wish I’d left the story of that afternoon as I try to whisper this story in his ear.

Up Close & Personal with Sheilagh Lee aka S.G.Lee author of Love’s Labours Won (the Stone Chronicles Book 1)
Where were you born and where do you call home? I was born in London, Ontario, Canada and that is where I call home.
What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?
My new book is Love’s Labours Won (the Stone Chronicles Book1)

Jobless Sarah accepts the offer of a mysterious job interview; but is it a ruse? Sarah explores her past to find her future finding herself, and new family bonds.

If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?
Sarah would say that she is finding herself (still working on understanding herself and her abilities.) Demetrious would say that he has never met anyone quite like Sarah and that’s why he is attracted to her.
Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?
Yes this is part of a series I think it will be a three part series but they are also stand alone books. The next book in the series is called A Tiger Wrapped In A Player’s Hide. My first book includes a teaser chapter of it at the end of Love’s Labours Won
What or who inspired you to write?  And how long have you been writing?
My mother was always telling stories and writing and encouraged her children to do the same. I think I’ve been writing stories in my head long before I could put them on paper. I’ve been writing them down as soon as I could put pen to paper. I have thousands of papers and books with short stories and parts of books on them. Writing has always taken me into the world of that character and I love getting into the character’s mindset and their life.
Would you like to giveaway a copy of your book on this blog?
I would love to give one lucky reader a copy of my book. I hope that they will enjoy it as much as I did writing it.
How did you come up with the title and cover design?
Have you based any of your characters on someone you know, or real events in your own life?
Aunt Iva is a combination of my maternal grandmother and my mother.
What books have most influenced your writing most and why?
I think Kelley Armstrong books and Charlaine Harris’. I love the strong female characters they write.
Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
Do I have to pick one? LOL I’d love to meet Charlaine Harris, Maureen Jennings  and Kelley Armstrong.
Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?
I love all the medians, however I just got a Kobo for my birthday and am enjoying the convenience of being able to carry so many books anywhere I want to go.
Where do you prefer to buy your books?
I get them from Amazon, Chapters, Smashwords and other bookstores.
Are you a self-published (Indie) Author?
Yes I’m a self-published Indie Author
Have you ever read a book more than once?
Books I adore I read more than once. I read Paradox more than once.
Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version?
The English Patient was a great movie. Sorry I know I’m Canadian and should love Michael Ondaatje ‘s book but I didn’t .I had trouble even finishing it however I’m stubborn and I did.
What book are you currently reading and in what format (e-book/paperback/hardcover)?
I am currently reading Triangles. I was lucky enough to receive a free copy from Simon and Schuster Canada. It is not my usual read but very interesting none the less.
What book do you know that you will never read?
I can’t say I would never read any particular book. I have read some different Michael Ondaatje and have actually liked them. I often will try at least to read a book that I receive as a gift that I would never pick myself. The thing with a good book is that every page holds a story that is developing and you want to read more.
Are there any new Authors that have grasped your interest and why?
Many there are some exceptional authors and indie authors that have really piqued my interest. Recently I have been reading a lot of e-books and trying out my e-reader. Books like Paradox-The Angels Are Here-Book 1 by you Patti, and Osric’s Wand the Wand Makers Debate by Jack D. Albrecht Jr and Ashley Delay, In search Of Lucy by Lia Fairchild , and Nature of the Best by Jodi Langston.so many great choices out there for readers to read.
Is there anything you would change in your last book and why?
No any changes I would have made I made in the final draft.
Who designed the cover of your book?
My daughter who had taken some media design courses.
Do you have a book trailer?
Not yet but I am working on one.
What are your thoughts on book trailers?
They are an interesting way to market a book but they are new developing median for advertising your book and are in their earliest stages, so some hit and miss their target audience
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Pick something you like and write about it even if it’s on a blog the more you write the more comfortable you will get with sharing your writing and improving.
